Dolans delighted to be part of Limericks St. Patricks Day Festival

Programme of events supporting local musicians, artists and creatives, with free fun for all the family and friends at home and abroad.

Limerick people at home and abroad are being invited to ‘tune in to take part’ in this year’s jam packed virtual Limerick St. Patrick’s Festival featuring some world class musicians and a host of online events to celebrate our national day!

Limerick City and County Council, with the support of Fáilte Ireland, has created a festival programme of online events and fun family content that will be broadcast on Limerick.ie/StPatricksFestival and on Limerick St. Patrick’s Festival social media (Facebook, Instagram and Twitter)

The headline event is Wild Atlantic Edge – Music, Conversations and Songs from Limerick City.

Working in partnership with Dolans, we invite you to experience a virtual musical celebration from Limerick, Ireland's gateway to the Wild Atlantic Way and enjoy, among others, some of Ireland’s most celebrated musicians, Sharon Shannon, Hermitage Green, MuRli, Emma Langford and a host of surprise special guests.

Grammy Award winner Rhiannon Giddens will be the star attraction in the Virtual St. Patrick’s Day Fling in collaboration with the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance, University Concert Hall (UCH) and UL Global. Limerick’s young musicians will also be showcasing their talents from the Irish Chamber Orchestra’s Sláinte Sing Along and the Irish Chamber Orchestra Youth Orchestra, and Music Generation Limerick City.

It will certainly be a festival unlike previous ones but that doesn’t mean it won’t be as special. The public are being asked to embrace this new-style festival and tune in to take part!

This year’s Limerick St. Patrick’s Festival will also host family workshops from Limerick’s Lumen Street Theatre and the Hunt Museum and retrospectives on Limerick St. Patrick’s Day Parades and International Band Championships gone by.

There will be an aerial performance from locally based Fidget Feet Aerial Dance Theatre from the stunning backdrop of King John’s Castle.

In addition, we will be celebrating our Limerick Diaspora, linking up with our sister and twinned city around the world, knowing that many of them would love to return to Limerick but cannot at present.

Fáilte Ireland is supporting Limerick St. Patrick’s Festival in order to keep Ireland at the forefront and help position Limerick as ‘the’ place to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day when it is safe to travel again. They have provided funding to support the greening of locations across Limerick this March, marketing content creation, web development and the festival’s long term development plans.

Mayor of the City and County of Limerick Cllr Michael Collins said: “Limerick’s St. Patrick’s Festival is always a special occasion and this year is no different, even though the way we are celebrating in a different way. It’s now more important than ever that we work to keep Limerick in the forefront of people’s minds.

“By using technology and creating online content, it is the best way of celebrating our national holiday this year – at home with family.

“We are placing our creatives and musicians at the heart of the programming, providing them with much needed support so they can do what they do best – create and inspire us while spreading happiness and joy.”

Dr. Pippa Little, Culture and Arts Officer with Limerick City and County Council said: “The online programme celebrates Limerick, our artists, buildings and history. Much of it is brought to us by Limerick’s creatives; cultural organisations, artists and young people. They continue to perform and create new work, and for the Limerick St. Patrick’s Festival this year we can all enjoy concerts for young and old and aerial performances, from home.

“Families can tune in and take part at the kitchen table in making St. Patrick’s themed costumes, including a magnificent snake headdress, with Lumen Street Theatre and applique badges with the Hunt Museum. Limerick’s participation in Fáilte Ireland’s Destination Greening initiative lights up more than twenty buildings across the city and county in green.”

Cathaoirleach of the Metropolitan District of Limerick, Cllr Sarah Kiely added: “This year we have an amazing line up for Limerick St. Patrick’s Festival with big names for online concerts here in Limerick.

"This keeps Limerick St. Patrick’s Festival in the limelight too especially for our International Band Championship which draws people from all over the world but mostly from the USA, where the majority of our tourists for St. Patrick’s Day comes from.

“It has to be a priority to keep the connection alive and maintain relationships with our diaspora and ensure next year we get them back here in Limerick. It is worth so much in terms of the economy and employment in the region.”

Limerick St. Patrick’s Festival is programmed by Limerick City and County Council and is supported by Fáilte Ireland.

Media Sponsors are Limerick Leader, Limerick Post, Live 95 and Spin South West.

Robert Burns Night 2021 goes virtual

Robert Burns Night 2021 goes virtual

Robert Burns Night 2021 will be going virtual this year on Monday, January 25 due to the continuing pandemic.

Limerick’s Scottish residents have marked Robert Burns Night in celebration of the life and work of Scottish wordsmith Robert Burns for seventeen years now, with the first fifteen years being held in Bobby Byrne’s Bar, before a January 2020 switch to Dolans due to crowds getting bigger each year.

The organisers of the Robert Burns Night 2021 event are Michael Paul Potter and Noel Flannery, with Noel Flannery being a teacher and huge fan of Robert Burns’s poetry.

RTÉ Television has attended the Limerick event twice, the event traditionally serves Haggis from Pat O’Doherty’s Butchers in Enniskillen.

Robert Burns Night always guarantees a ‘night of tipsy dance and jollity’. Anyone who wishes to contribute to and perform a piece of literature is more than welcome to do so.

The night will consist of an address from The Mayor, songs from singers such as Phila Grace, and Shane Byrnes, a beautiful Scottish Medley on the fiddle by Mary Donoghue, and many more poems and interesting history about Burns.

Robert Burns Night celebrations have been held since 1801, five years after the death of the ‘Scottish Bard’. Burns Night continues to be celebrated across the globe and is a date not to be missed in Limerick.

The celebrations initially took place on January 29, this date was revised to January 25 after it was discovered this was in fact, the date of Burns’ birth.

The event begins at 8 pm and will finish at 9 pm. Any donations would be most welcome from the event organisers. The event itself is free so all donations and sponsors will be in support of the event. As this year’s event is online, any donations will be used to offset costs associated with hosting and running the event.

The event will be available free to view from their website HERE and from their YouTube Channel.

Speaking on the virtual event the organisers have said, “Completing the Scottish feel of the night, the organisers usually have Walker’s and Patterson’s Scottish shortbreads, Tunnock’s teacakes, Scots Clan sweets, and Scottish Whiskey as spot prizes. For 2021, considering current restrictions, the team behind this annual event is determined to keep the (virtual) haggis and tartan flowing, so join us online for Monday, January 25.”

Keep Music Live!

Dolans Warehouse is opening again

Music venues around the country are looking to mitigate the challenges posed by social distancing, reduced capacities, and changing guidelines as they reopen for the first time since March.

With Dolans Warehouse beginning to open again, new measures have been put in place to accommodate socially distanced gigs in this coronavirus era.

We now sell "Tables". A Table is a pod of 4 people. This is to accommodate the strict social distancing measures in place. The four patrons must arrive to the venue together.

They are seated at the venue together and if they wish to order a drink, they can do so with an app. There will be table service only, a cashless bar system and hand sanitizers available.  We will observe all government guidelines. All our staff have worn masks since we reopened, and we would ask that you wear your mask upon entry and exit and if you need to use the toilet.

Because of the reduced capacity there are only a limited number of tables per gig. For contact tracing, music venues have an advantage in the sense that they already have a system in place for collecting details through the sale of tickets.

We are so looking forward to our new socially distancing gigs starting with Paddy Dennehy's album launch on Saturday September 26th. The Limerick Jazz Festival is on Sunday September 27th. We look forward to some great comedy gigs with Stephen Mullan, Joanne McNally and Neil Delamere and Lisa Hannigan and Paul Noonan are with us in October and November.

Paddy Dennehy Saturday September 26th

Limerick Jazz Festival Sunday September 27th

Stephen Mullan Friday October 2nd

Joanne McNally Saturday October 3rd

Lisa Hannigan Thursday October 8th

Neil Delamere Sunday October 11th

Paul Noonan Saturday November 14th

We hope you enjoy Dolans. It will be a little different, but it will be fun. We are beyond excited to welcoming artists and customers back and to celebrate the last of our 25th year. What a year!

Thank you for your support and to all our staff and crew for their hard work.

Statement regarding cancellation of all Live at the Drive In shows

"It is with profound regret that we were today informed that all Live at The Drive In shows can no longer proceed due to government guidelines.

We have looked at all options and have sought out support and advice from several Government offices and officials, unfortunately with continuing changes with COVID procedures we can not confirm any alternate dates.

After months of work and planning to try to bring some live music back to Ireland this summer. we are all devastated.

This was completely unforeseen. Please bear with us as we begin the process of organising full refunds to all ticket holders.  "
