Skids + special guest The Membranes

The Scottish art-punk unit Skids formed in Dunfermline in 1977. Comprised of the dramatic vocalist Richard Jobson, guitarist Stuart Adamson, bassist William Simpson, and drummer Tom Kellichan, the group issued the single "Reasons" on their own No Bad label before signing to Virgin. After two more singles, "Sweet Suburbia" and "The Saints Are Coming," Skids entered the U.K. Top Ten with "Into the Valley," included on their 1979 debut LP Scared to Dance, a fine document of the anthemic guitar riffs and chanted choruses which typified the first phase of the group's music.

With their second effort, 1979's arty Days in Europa (produced by Be Bop Deluxe's Bill Nelson), Skids scored a pair of Top 20 hits with "Masquerade" and "Working for the Yankee Dollar." Trouble loomed, however, as Jobson's increasingly grandiose plans for the group's music alienated not only their fans but also their own rhythm section, and both Simpson and Kellichan were long gone by the time of 1980's The Absolute Game, recorded with bassist Russell Webb and drummer Mike Baillie. By 1981's Joy, only Jobson remained from Skids' original lineup. Prior to recording the album, Adamson quit to form his own group, the internationally successful Big Country. After the release of the folk-indebted Joy, Skids officially disbanded; Jobson soon returned as a solo artist before forming the Armoury Show and beginning a career as a broadcaster.

In 2007, Jobson, Simpson, Baillie, and Big Country's Bruce Watson, and Watson's son Jamie, got back together to perform at T in the Park and two nights in their hometown of Dunfermline. Celebrating the 30th anniversary of the bands formation, the shows also paid tribute to former member Stuart Adamson, who passed away in 2001. Over the next couple of years, the same line-up performed a handful of times in their native Scotland, including a show at the 2010 Fifer Festival, which was celebrating the work of Jobson.

2017 saw the original line-up re-form to celebrate their 40th anniversary with a nationwide U.K. tour. With the dates rejuvenating the group's passion, the band entered the studio to record new material. The resulting fifth album, Burning Cities, was issued at the beginning of 2018. ~ Jason Ankeny, Rovi

Beoga

Beoga, an adventurous Irish band known for pushing the boundaries of traditional music, have proven that the genre can evolve in exciting ways. Their collaborations with Ed Sheeran, particularly on "Galway Girl" and "Nancy Mulligan," demonstrated their global appeal, and their creative direction shifted toward catchy, direct hooks, marking a departure from complex instrumentals. For their upcoming mini-album Carousel, Beoga worked with notable collaborators like Lissie, Devin Dawson, and Foy Vance, blending Irish rhythms with folk and pop influences. Tracks like "In A Rocket," "Matthew's Daughter," and "Make A Mark" showcase their ability to fuse pop production with traditional elements, while songs like "Homebird" emphasize their roots. With Carousel symbolizing their journey through the music industry, Beoga’s sound continues to evolve, as they prepare to reach new audiences with fresh, innovative material.

Nerina Pallot proudly presented by Seoda Shows

Nerina Pallot, the critically acclaimed singer-songwriter known for her heartfelt lyrics and soul-stirring melodies, returns with her eighth studio album, A Psalm for Emily Salvi, released in November 2024

A celebrated artist in the music industry, Nerina Pallot has traversed an extraordinary journey. From her breakout success with Fires in the mid-2000s, which earned her Top 40 hits and nominations for both an Ivor Novello Award and a Brit Award, to collaborating with artists like Kylie Minogue, her career has been anything but ordinary. Yet, Pallot remains grounded, her work a reflection of life’s ups and downs, its beauty and heartbreak.

The creation of her latest album, A Psalm for Emily Salvi, is a deeply personal endeavour. Born from an unexpected connection, the record is both a love letter to those who have supported her over the years and a tribute to the power of music in the face of adversity. One day, Pallot received a message from a woman named Emily, who shared how Pallot’s music had been a lifeline during her darkest moments. That message became the catalyst for the album, a reminder of the importance of perseverance, connection, and vulnerability.

The first single to be taken from the album, ‘Regrets’, is an upbeat Gospel-infused pop gem, ruminating on the conundrum that a life well lived cannot come without its trade-offs. ‘If you don’t question what you’ve done with your life, are you even alive?’ asks Pallot of the listener.

Reflecting on her career, Pallot muses on the dichotomy of success in the music industry. For every sold-out show at the London Palladium, there is the memory of performing to a handful of people in less-than-glamorous conditions. For every viral cover, like her rendition of Joy Division’s Love Will Tear Us Apart, there are songs that barely make a ripple. But it is this very unpredictability that makes Pallot’s journey so profoundly human. Her music is not crafted for the fleeting fame of the digital age but for the souls who find solace in her words and melodies.

“I made this album for myself and for Emily Salvi (not her actual name) —whoever she may truly be. And for all the Emily Salvis out there, who need a reminder that they’re not alone. This album is for them.”

Nerina Pallot’s music transcends the superficial metrics of modern success, resonating instead on a deeper, emotional level with those who listen. Whether you’ve been following her for years or are just discovering her work, A Psalm for Emily Salvi is an invitation to connect with something real.

The Stunning

2024 was a busy year for The Stunning. They released a music performance film ‘We Come Alive’ featuring a host of amazing Irish talent including Mundy, Mairtín O’Connor, Camille O’Sullivan, Zoe Conway to name just a few, and followed it up with a digital-only release of the accompanying soundtrack album of the same name, now available on all streaming platforms.

Following a brace of music festivals last summer they rounded off the year with a sold out Irish tour. Now the band are announcing the first round of dates for 2025.

Formed in 1987 in Galway city, The Stunning took Ireland by storm and shifted the focus from a Dublincentric rock scene to the provinces, paving the way for many more artists to come. They toured relentlessly releasing a string of hit singles and two number one albums and built a following that would make them one of the most popular Irish bands ever amongst a new generation of young Irish people for whom emigration was not a prerequisite

The band have been together now for 38 years. The same five lads that gathered in an old farmhouse to play music all those years ago in Galway are still enjoying the buzz of playing to fans old and new. Their live shows are a testament to their musicianship and a catalogue of songs that have stood the test of time and still sound fresh and relevant today.

Songs such as Everything that Rises, Half Past Two, Romeo’s on Fire, Heads are Gonna Roll and are still to be heard on the radio today while Brewing up a Storm has become a sort of unofficial anthem for Irish people all over the world.

Fingers in other Pies

In between ‘Stunning’ duties the band members have their fingers in many pies. Lead singer Steve Wall’s acting career has really taken off. Following his portrayal of legendary trumpet player Chet Baker in the feature film My Foolish Heart, he has appeared in Dune: Part Two; Black Doves (Netflix); Raised by Wolves with Ridley Scott; The Witcher and many more.

Guitarist Derek Murray is becoming a meditation Zen-Master.

Keyboard and trumpet player Jim Higgins is a master bodhrán player and a stalwart on the traditional music scene.

Drummer Cormac Dunne plays with everybody west of the Shannon, sometimes twice a day!

Joe Wall has been involved with the Music College BIMM Dublin since it opened in 2011. He has been writing and recording a debut solo album and is also hatching plans for future Stunning ventures
